October 2020 Weather Outlook

The world weather roundup for last week, 18-24 October shows the U.S. overall still trending 1F warmer than a year ago, warmest in 3 years and 18th warmest of the past 35 years. CLICK ON IMAGES FOR A LARGER VIEW. It was one extreme or the other with the East very warm, while the Rockies and Central Plains were winter-like. While 26% drier than last year, it was still the 8th wettest of the past 35 years with snowfall off the charts up in the Rockies and Plains for the snowiest conditions in over 35 years.



A quick tour around the world shows Canada almost coast-to-coast cold trending 8.2F colder than last year making it the #1 coldest in over 35 years. This is exceptional for Fall-Winter seasonal merchandise sales. China the coldest in 18 year, Europe coldest in 4 years, Russia coldest in 3 years while the Southern Hemisphere locations are trending warmer.



Season-to-date snowfall has been heavy in the Rocky Mountains and Upper Plains making the U.S. overall the snowiest Fall in over 35 years. Not much in the Great Lakes or Northeast where temperatures have been warmer. The snowy Fall pattern likely to relax a bit for November.



This week 26 Oct - 1 Nov more cold diving deep into the Southern Rockies and Plains with snow while the Southeast has yet another hurricane potential midweek. Soon to be hurricane Zeta (the 26th named system of the season) will once again impact the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Fortunately a fast mover but heavy flooding rain still possible with a moderate storm surge to the right of landfall in MS-AL.



For the U.S. overall, the week still trends 2.6F warmer than last year but 6th coldest of the past 35 years. Wettest in 5 years and 3rd wettest of the past 35 years, while snowfall will be 52% more than last year and 2nd snowiest of the past 35 years - mostly in the Central and Southern Rockies.



The 6-day snowfall outlook shows the next system moving out of the Central Rockies but not as much snow for the Central Plains with a mores southern track.



Next week (2-8 November) shows the cold lifting out with a much milder week for much of the country. For the U.S. overall, temperatures look to trend 7F warmer than a year ago and 7th warmest of the past 35 years. Rainfall looks to diminish with the driest conditions in 11 years, 3rd driest in 35 years. Snowfall looks to take a break with the least conditions in 4 years and 7th least in 35 years. Need to watch for yet another hurricane threat in the Southeast later in the week!



All sorts of spooky things this week with a full moon on Halloween, that won't happen again for 19 years. Time to fall back this weekend with the end of Daylight Savings Time and next week Tuesday is Election day...in case you didn't know that. HA Fall is zipping by at Warp Speed.



Weather Trends and our team donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to many charities here in the U.S. and around the World, but we especially like it when we can see first hand the individual life touched.
